CHAPTER SIXTEEN

BRAINFART

Detective Morris woke up suddenly from a deep sleep. She couldn’t believe her mistake. The bumbling idiot on the first boat at the pier in Beaumont was from Costa Rica. She remembered the ship was flying an odd-looking flag. It had blue and white stripes with a red band and a military insignia in the middle. The name on the boat was Pura Vida. The container was full of coffee andshould've been coming in, not going out.

“Holy crap, how did I miss that? What a brain fart. I saw it on Suneda Ortega’s deportation order.” Jackie reached for the phone and dialed her partner.

“Logan, it’s Morris here.”

“Yeah, I know it’s you, sweetheart. What’s up Morris? It’s three in the morning for Christ’s sake. Have you been thinking about me, girl?”

“Yeah, in your wildest wet dreams, you prick. Hey, listen up for a minute. Do you remember that Mexican bumbler on pier ten you were so damned fond of?”

“The one you let go?”

“Well, I think that guy must be working with or maybe even helping Suneda Ortega and Billie Jensen.”

Danny sat up. “No shit, what do you mean, Morris? It’s too early to shake this hard on off.”

“Wake up and keep both of your hands on the receiver, cockhead. Stay on point with me here. The ship was flying a Costa Rican flag. The name of the vessel was the Pura Vida. Do you get that detective dick?”

“Holy shit, I don’t believe it. Great job, Morris!"

“Okay then, call the Coast Guard. Tell them to meet us at the main port in San Jose. Let’s bring them in and get Stackhouse off your tight, squeaking little ass,” Detective Logan shot back.

“Call them yourself,” Jackie said and hung up.

Billie opened the coffee bean door hatch and helped Suneda climb in. They were both exhausted and soaking wet. The makeshift “hotel room” with blow up air mattress was a blessing. The container was well equipped. The ventilation ducts Negos installed kept the internal area cool with a steady flow of air. The ice chest was loaded with beer, water, soft drinks, and fresh pineapple and mango juice. Negos thought of everything it seemed including flashlights, walkie-talkies, books, and magazines. It even had a port-o-john.

“Can you feel that, Billie? We’re moving,” Suneda whispered.

“Negos has come through just like you said he would. This place is nice. We could just stay and live here,” Billie joked.

Simultaneously laughing, they rolled onto the quilt-topped air mattress. Slowly and methodically, without a word, Billie undressed Suneda. As the last button surrendered itself, her camisole slipped off, cascading to the floor below. Billie caressed her heavenly, light-brown breasts of pure silk and honey as he looked into her seductive brown eyes. He kissed her and stroked her now short brown hair, then his meandering lips made their way behind the ear and below her neckline. His mouth reached her large and supple breasts, taking one in as he firmly massaged the other. Without hesitation Billie moved on top of her.
